TRANSSEXUAL people are being driven to depression and suicidal thoughts by the lack of specialist medical and support services in this country.

Some people unable to access treatment have become so desperate that they have bought hormones on the black market at grave risk to their health.

A report by the Equality Authority found Ireland now lags behind most other European Countries both in terms of availability of services and legal protections for transsexual people.
