Scheme allows tenants to buy their council flats

A NEW scheme to allow local authorities sell their apartments to tenants should be in place within two months.

But there are fears that many tenants, who have been trying for years to buy their homes, may be considered too old by banks to secure mortgages.

Cork’s city manager Joe Gavin told councillors on Monday that the Department of the Environment has indicated a scheme to allow the sales is close to being rolled out.
