Brennan rejects graduated scale for speed penalties

NO MATTER by how much drivers exceed speed limits they will get the same number of penalty points, Transport Minister Séamus Brennan has insisted.

He was responding to suggestions he should introduce a graduated scale of penalties for drivers.

A spokesperson said such a system would not feature in two new Road Traffic Bills to come before the Dáil shortly. Despite calls from a garda representative body for such an amendment, the spokesperson said it was not under consideration.
