Lack of nursing home staff ‘ignored by Government’

THE lack of adequate staffing in the public nursing homes has been criticised by the country’s nurses who say the Government has ignored the problem for the past seven years.

It has repeated its request for an immediate review of staffing levels and conditions of accommodation for elderly citizens who are being looked after by the State.

According to the Irish Nurses Organisation, in some cases, one nurse is being forced to look after 30 elderly patients.
