Health officials ‘do not know extent of hospital beds crisis’

HOSPITAL consultants yesterday questioned the competence of the Department of Health and Children in managing the health service.

The department and the consultants’ professional body are at loggerheads over the number of beds available in Irish hospitals.

The Irish Hospital Consultants’ Association (IHCA) claims the department “does not even know how many hospital beds there are in the country”.
