Planning permission for 33% of one-off houses overturned

ALMOST one-third of planning permissions granted for one-off housing were overturned last year due to lack of proper infrastructure such as sewerage.

An Bord Pleanála’s annual report, released yesterday, also showed a deepening friction between local authorities and environmental groups over one-off rural housing.

The board’s inspectors, it emerged, reversed a relatively high rate of local authority decisions on rural housing due to public health risks and concerns over visual amenity and traffic hazards.
