RESOURCES to deal with a growing number of cancer sufferers requiring palliative care must be maximised by the Government, the Irish Cancer Society insisted yesterday.

Every half hour someone somewhere in Ireland is diagnosed with cancer and the number of cases is set to rise over the next decade, largely due to increasing longevity and the use of tobacco.

Cancer is also a disease that touches nearly every family, and probably best explains why there is a hugely generous response to the society’s annual Daffodil Day. which takes place today.
