Clean-up time after Robbie rocks Phoenix Park
The final date of Williams’ hugely successful Escapology tour drew thousands of fans from Ireland and the UK to Dublin on Saturday as the biggest man in pop pulled out all the stops for a night to remember.
“Knebworth was good, but this is different,” said Williams, as he took to the stage in a black top and white tie. Following his hugely successful shows at Knebworth in the UK last weekend, the former Take That star suggested he had saved the best for his Irish fans as he belted out hits including Let Me Entertain You, Rock DJ and Come Undone.
“This is going to be the most amazing night of my life, I hope you’re coming with me,” he said, as the fans went into a frenzy.
With the Tricolour wrapped around the microphone stand, there was no doubting that Williams was out to celebrate his Irishness. “I consider myself Irish, I’m moving to Ireland,” he said, before dedicating the song Mr Bojangles to his mother, who attended the concert along with Robbie’s sister Sally.
British soap star Max Beesley also joined Robbie onstage at the park for the gig which saw Ozzy Osbourne’s wacky daughter Kelly perform as the main support act. Members of the Leeds football team, director Neil Jordan and former popstar Keith Duffy were just some of the famous faces to attend the show.
“I wanted to be here for this show, he’s an amazing performer and we’re big fans,” said Keith Duffy, who attended with wife, Lisa.
Following the show, Williams joined close friends and family members at the Four Seasons hotel for a party, before leaving for London.
