THE Chinese immigrant suspected of having SARS is expected to be discharged from hospital early this week.

The woman, whose condition continues to improve, will be examined by clinicians at Cherry Orchard Hospital in Dublin later today It is likely that she will be discharged, either today or tomorrow.

The 10-day precautionary voluntary quarantine at the hostel in Dun Laoghaire also expires today.

It is also believed that the woman had only just reached the city centre last Tuesday, before she was tracked down by public health doctors.

The doctors questioned the 24-year-old woman from Guangdong province about who she had been in contact with to rule out any virus transmission risk.

Any contacts were followed up by officials from the Eastern Regional Health Authority.

Meanwhile, the woman suspected of having SARS who was sent home from hospital in Waterford continues to do well, according to a spokesperson for the South Eastern Health Board.

The spokesperson said results of tests carried out on the woman were due some time this week.
