Ireland rings in as top mobile phone user in Europe

MOBILE phone usage in Ireland is indisputably the largest in Europe per head of population with a newly achieved figure of 4.05 million mobile subscribers nationally.

Mobile penetration reached 100% for the first time in September, according to the latest figures from the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) on the Irish electronics communications sector.

And ComReg believes that as many as 7% of mobile users have more than one active mobile subscription. Irish mobile subscribers sent over one billion text messages and over six million multi-media messages ComReg reports for the third quarter of 2005.
