College offers round two

Any places not filled in the first round will be offered to students with sufficient points who have applied for these courses.

Almost 14,000 students decided not to accept their first round college place offer.

Going on last year’s figures it’s likely that fewer than 3,000 offers will be made in round two.

More than 18,000 students were not offered a third-level place when the CAO cut-off points were released last month.

Only 47,099 students received an offer on August 20, which was the lowest ever, despite hopes points would fall in most courses.

In the first round only 72% of students got a round one offer and less than half got their first preference on the degree list.

Almost 70% of diploma and certificate applicants got their first choice.

Cut-off points for computer courses fell by as many as 100 in some colleges, such as computer science in DIT which is now 300.
