THE Educational Research Centre survey provides a unique snapshot of the demographics and lifestyles of Irish primary pupils today.

Gender gap: Girls score better than boys

The study deals with 4,090 fifth-class pupils and 3,842 pupils of first class.

Of the 7,932 children in total, up to one-in-10 were born outside Ireland, but only 2% spoke a language other than English or Irish.
