COMPULSORY purchase order (CPO) laws must be brought in to fast-track projects such as motorways and stop objectors holding them up for years in the courts, costing taxpayers millions, urges a Government report.

But CPOs cannot be used on land for the building of incinerators without giving objectors a chance to halt the project through the courts.

These are among the main recommendations of the Joint Oireachtas Constitution Committee's final report on land prices due to be published by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern on April 7.
