Ahern to question British on rearrest of IRA bomber

TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern yesterday said he will seek details from the British Government on why it has returned IRA Shankill bomber Sean Kelly to jail.

Ahern to question British on rearrest of IRA bomber

Kelly was one of a two-man IRA unit which was responsible for the bombing of a cafe in Shankill Road in 1993 that claimed 10 lives, including that of fellow IRA bomber Thomas Begley. The 33-year-old bomber was released in 2000 as part of the Good Friday Agreement prisoner amnesty deal.

However, over the course of the weekend he was returned to prison after new Northern secretary Peter Hain revoked his licence.
