The organisers of the march to the park have called on people to gather at Cloverhill District Court in Clondalkin, west Dublin, in support of more than 20 colleagues facing public order charges.

“We want to get as many people as possible to go to court for the actual hearing,” said Liz Curry of Dublin Grassroots Network (DGN), which organised the Bring the Noise march to the Phoenix Park.

“It won’t be a demonstration, just a show of solidarity. It’s just to show all the people who are having that hearing that there are lots of people supporting them and there for them,” she said.

DGN had a team of 10 people attending bail application hearings yesterday at Cloverhill.

Parents of many of the 23 people charged over Saturday night also tried over the bank holiday weekend to organise bail for their children. Most of the 23 charged are Irish students in their 20s, many from Dublin.

Only one had an address outside the Republic.

They are facing charges of refusing to obey garda directions and breaches of the peace. One 20-year-old man is accused of stealing a garda cap.

Some of the hearings - of four women - are expected to be heard separately at the Bridewell District Court.
