Crash victim was due to be engaged
Jennifer, 28, an air traffic controller who had been living in Paris for several years, intended revealing plans to marry her long-term boyfriend to family and friends this weekend, it emerged yesterday.
The couple also planned to abandon their careers to start a new life together by taking over the running of a small hotel in rural France before tragedy struck.
Jennifer’s younger sister, Catherine, 22, also died when the car in which they were travelling hit a patch of black ice and collided with two heavy goods vehicles in the Loire region of western France.
Catherine was studying drama and theatre at Trinity College Dublin, where she was due to complete her final exams next summer.
The fatal accident happened at around 3am on Tuesday morning near the town of Cholet, 55km south-east of the city of Nantes. Weather conditions in the area at the time of the incident were described as treacherous by local emergency services.
The two sisters were the only children of former RTÉ executive Liam Miller, 56, and his Scandinavian-born wife, Britt.
Mr Miller retired from RTÉ 18 months ago after spending 34 years working with the State broadcaster, where he held a number of positions including managing director of organisation and development.
He had also worked as a director and producer on Today Tonight as well as twice working as executive producer of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Mr Miller and his wife live near the French city of La Rochelle in a holiday home they bought a few years ago, although they still own an apartment in Dublin which they use on frequent visits to Ireland.
Both daughters were travelling from Paris to spend Christmas at the family home near La Rochelle before Tuesday’s tragedy.
Earlier, Catherine had flown from Dublin to Paris where she had been collected by her older sister.
