Women say Neary should face criminal prosecution

THE 60 women who claim they had their wombs removed unnecessarily by an obstetrician said yesterday they believed Dr Michael Neary should face criminal prosecution.

The support group for the women, Patient Focus, welcomed the decision by the Irish Medical Council (IMC) to hand over its report on Dr Neary’s activities to the gardaí.

“The Director of Public Prosecutions will ultimately decide if he (Dr Neary) has a case to answer, but the women we represent believe he should be prosecuted,” Patient Focus spokeswoman Sheila O’Connor said.
