AWARD-WINNING Irish author William Trevor received an honorary knighthood in London yesterday in recognition of his services to literature.

This is the second award bestowed on the Co Cork-born writer by the British government as he was given an honorary CBE in 1977.

Considered one of the greatest living Irish writers of fiction, 74-year-old Trevor is a prolific author of short stories and novels. His latest novel, The Story of Lucy Gault, was shortlisted for the 2002 Booker Prize and the Whitbread Prize.
