Trevor receives honorary knighthood

AWARD-WINNING Irish author William Trevor received an honorary knighthood in London yesterday in recognition of his services to literature.

This is the second award bestowed on the Co Cork-born writer by the British government as he was given an honorary CBE in 1977.

Considered one of the greatest living Irish writers of fiction, 74-year-old Trevor is a prolific author of short stories and novels. His latest novel, The Story of Lucy Gault, was shortlisted for the 2002 Booker Prize and the Whitbread Prize.

Born in Mitchelstown, Co Cork, Trevor was educated at Trinity College Dublin.

He emigrated to England in the 1950s and now lives in Devon.
