City to get 1,000 jobs

A PROPERTY developer plans to bring 1,000 jobs to Waterford as part of the major redevelopment of lands formerly owned by Waterford Crystal.

City to get 1,000 jobs

Developer, Dr Gerard O’Hare, met with residents of Ballybeg in Waterford city to outline his plans for the 22-acre site.

Subject to planning, the development will include a multiplex cinema, offices, retail units and an “iconic” building.

It is hoped that development might begin soon and be complete by 2009.

A new, state-of-the-art “lifestyle village” is planned for Ballybeg under phase one.

Dr O’Hare heads up the project for investment group, Parker Green International.

“With over 3,000 people residing in this area and with the planned future development of 1,200 new homes under the current area plan, this project and location can become an important future nucleus for this expanding community,” said Mr O’Hare.

In recent months, Parker Green International, who are based in Newry, have met both with the Mayor of Waterford and council members, as well as council planners, to discuss their ambitious plans.

They acquired the 22-acre site last June after it was rezoned from recreational to commercial usage.

The lands will be fully developed in total over a five to 10-year period with the resultant creation of 1,000 jobs.

Four hundred will be created in the first phase alone.
