Residents protest over lack of funding to alleviate flooding

ANGRY Dublin residents, whose homes in the Ringsend and Irishtown areas were devastated by floods last February, took to the streets yesterday in the first of a series of protests aimed at securing government funds for urgent prevention works.

The demonstration caused traffic tailbacks in the Ringsend district which affected commuters as they headed home from work.

“We are genuinely sorry we have to take this action”, said community representative Larry Joyce from Stella Gardens, Ringsend, the neighbourhood worst affected by the floods. “Really the people that are affected tonight have nothing to do with our problem, but we feel we have no alternative.”
