Farmer stabbed in head with screwdriver during raid

The 62-year-old was taken to hospital after he tried to foil a robbery at his son’s home at Ballyhea, in North Cork.

Four men driving a stolen Northern Ireland-registered Mercedes attempted to flee the house when they were approached by the father and son. The raiders attacked the pair with screwdrivers, leaving the father with a gash in his head which needed stapling. He also received injuries to his left arm.
