CCTV may stop further killings

Ms Ralph was stabbed in the street early on Thursday morning while queuing for a taxi with her husband.

Naas Fine Gael Councillor Darren Scully said the CCTV cameras will provide extra armoury for gardaí in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour in the town.

And signs will be placed around Naas to let people know the CCTV cameras are in operation.

“This might make people who are up to mischief or intend causing harm to any person to think twice and realise they just cannot walk up and harm someone and expect to get away with it,” Mr Scully said.

He added there has been an increase in anti-social behaviour in Naas in recent years like all other towns and people are now concerned about their safety.

“This is the first time there has been a fatality on the Main Street of Naas and there is great fear among the population when they see something so dreadful happen on their doorstep,” Mr Scully said.

Naas Town Council has been working in close co-operation with local gardaí over the past three years to secure CCTV cameras for the town and Mr Scully is the chairman of its garda liaison committee.

He said local gardaí are very keen to have the cameras because they do help with investigations.
