BABIES in Limerick are already weekly church goers long before they are baptised.

Devout babies as sacristy turns into health centre

During the week, St Nicholas church in Westbury, Corbally, doubles as an infant health centre where babies get their injections and development checks. Parish priest Fr John Daly said they were very happy to facilitate the Health Service Executive Mid-West by opening the church sacristy for weekly baby checks. He added many parents opt to have their babies christened at the church as well.

“There are very many young mothers with babies in our parish and neighbouring parishes who come to the clinic. We do not have mid-week morning Mass, so the clinic does not interfere with church services. The nurses come and see the mothers and their babies in the sacristy. We are only too glad to be able to help people in the community,” Fr Daly said.
