Body of missing man found in lake
Members of the Garda Underwater Unit recovered the body of 22-year-old Michael O’Flynn in about three metres of water in a man-made lake on the grounds of the West Cork Technology Park, on the outskirts of Clonakilty at about 10.15am.
The body was identified shortly afterwards as that of Mr O’Flynn and was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem was carried out yesterday afternoon.
A garda investigation is underway but a spokesman said they were not treating the death as suspicious.
“It appears to have been a tragic accident,” he said.
It is understood the body may have been in the water for a couple of days.
Mr O’Flynn, of Willsgrove, Enniskeane, West Cork, was last seen outside the rugby club in Clonakilty at 2am on Easter Monday morning.
The young man, who had been attending a Fás course in Dublin, had returned home for the weekend. He was last seen walking towards his home, less than a mile and a half away.
His family reported him missing on Wednesday and a search involving gardaí, coast guard, civil defence and up to 120 local people took place on Thursday.
Funeral arrangements have yet to be finalised.
Meanwhile, a body was recovered from the Garravogue river in Co Sligo. The recovery of the body followed a search for a man seen entering the river in the early hours yesterday. He had been seen near the Hyde Bridge in Sligo town at around 3am.
