Greens call for probe into waste export to Sweden

THE GREEN Party last night called for an investigation into why thousands of tonnes of recyclable waste are being sent to Sweden to be burned as fuel.

The party is particularly concerned about a shipment of 2,500 bales of plastic and paper, each weighing over half a tonne, which are due to be shipped from Foynes next week by private Limerick firm Mr Binman.

Green Party Cork TD Dan Boyle said the shipment highlighted the inadequacy of waste management policy in Ireland.
