GOVERNMENT legal experts are examining the law to see if any amendments need to be made to outlaw private gaming clubs.

Government examining law to ensure gaming clubs can be closed down

The examination follows outspoken statements from Justice Minister Michael McDowell, who claimed that such clubs were essentially casinos and therefore illegal. The minister said he planned to close down the private gaming clubs by using the law, namely the Gaming and Lotteries Act 1956, and amending the law if necessary.

It is understood the Department of Justice is examining the legislation to determine whether any provisions need to be strengthened in order to close any loopholes.
