PATIENTS should have the right to compare the death and recovery rates in each hospital, a powerful Dáil committee demanded last night.

Such information would not lead to “health shopping”, but would mean funding could be directed at the best parts of the system, according to the Public Accounts Committee.

PAC chairman and former Health Minister Michael Noonan said he disliked the term “league tables”, but added that people had a right to assess the situation in each hospital.
