Martin rules out work permits for migrants

ENTERPRISE Minister Micheál Martin yesterday ruled out any change of Government policy in response to a surprise poll finding that four out of five voters want to limit the number of EU accession state migrants allowed to work here.

According to yesterday’s poll, 78% believe accession migrants should be required to apply for obtain work permits before being allowed to work in Ireland.

However, the MRBI/ Irish Times survey also found that most Irish people see the presence of foreign workers here as being positive for Ireland.
