White gears up to ‘green’ car

AN environmentally conscious politician has put her money where her mouth is and is taking ‘green’ to the extreme.

Green Party deputy leader Cllr Mary White has converted her Volkswagen Golf to run on pure plant oil (PPO) to promote the biofuel industry, to reduce her weekly fuel bill, and to cut back on emissions.

The Carlow-based politician says she’s noticed the difference, particularly where running costs are concerned. “I am delighted to run my car on rape seed oil purchased from a local farmer from my constituency. Killure Cereals, one of the eight targeted pilot projects, is my local supplier. It’s a great feeling to know that I’m using pure Kilkenny oil,” she said.
