FAI denies deal

THE Football Association of Ireland (FAI) last night denied Lansdowne Road could be used as an international venue without a Government promise to build a new stadium.

It was reported yesterday that the world soccer authority, FIFA, would agree to the continued use of temporary seats on the Lansdowne terraces regardless of the Government's plans for a second stadium.

The FAI has consistently said FIFA was unwilling to approve the 13,000 bucket seats without a Government decision to transform Lansdowne into a 50,000 seater arena.
