Eurovision hopeful Chris hits right note with young book-lovers
The You’re a Star winner got a wild reception as he arrived at the refurbished Waterford City Council library yesterday to launch the new teenage, multi-media collection.
The bookies’ favourite to scoop the Eurovision title in Istanbul next month says he doesn’t pay much attention to odds. “I don’t take much notice of what the bookies say or do. It will all depend on my performance on the night.”
He added that he was thrilled by the excitement created by his win.
“I thought things were going to quieten down after the You’re A Star competition but it’s been crazy. We’re at home here in Waterford for three shows now and they’re going great. The buzz is brilliant.”
Chris shrugged off speculation and rumour about a further a between him and You’re A Star runner-up, James Kilbane.
“The story about me and James not singing together because of a rift is pure rubbish. Our voices are totally different and I am a higher octave than him, that’s all. Our voices just don’t match. Someone is just trying to make a story out of nothing,” he said.
The plans and preparations for Istanbul continue.
“We’ve been looking at clothes and have picked out some bits for Istanbul. Once the tour is over, we’ll make the final selections.”
Assistant librarian at Waterford City Council, Melanie Cunningham, said Chris was the ideal role model for the library and his visit showed young people libraries can be cool.
“Our exciting new collection in the teenage multi-media section features over 6,000 DVDs, videos, books, tapes, books on CD as well as CD Roms and CDs.
“The collection is aimed at young people aged 13 to 17 years. Membership is free and we’ve free internet access,” she said.
The library is being promoted as a comfortable and attractive place to be. The open-plan space features adult and teenage sections, as well as local studies and research study sections. There are also comfortable areas where members can browse through newspapers, surf the net or study.
