Racehorse trainer offers reward in bid to track down missing daughter
Luke Comer has expressed concern about the safety of his daughter, Sandra, who disappeared from an alcohol treatment centre in Cape Town over two months ago.
The 24-year-old woman has not had contact with her family since she spoke on the phone with her father on August 14.
Ms Comer, who lives in Ireland, travelled to South Africa in July to receive treatment for alcohol addiction.
Fears for her welfare have grown after she failed to return to Ireland on September 5 as planned.
Mr Comer was reported in a South African newspaper yesterday as believing his daughter may have sought out members of the horse-racing fraternity in Cape Town.
He pointed out that Sandra was accustomed to an extravagant lifestyle, although she had no credit card or access to money at the time she went missing.
She spent periods at two health facilities in the Cape Town area where she indicated to staff that she might seek part-time work at local stables.
Counsellors attached to a treatment centre told Ms Comer’s family that they were concerned that she had made “a poor choice” of friends during her stay in South Africa.
One staff member described her as “friendly pleasant and popular with a passion for horses.”
A team of private investigators hired by Mr Comer has been visiting stables and racecourses in the Western Cape Province in the hope of finding her.
Ms Comer has also been officially reported to local police as a missing person.
It is understood Mr Comer has offered a substantial reward to anyone who can help provide clues to his daughter’s whereabouts.
The horse trainer could not be contacted for comment yesterday. Although based in London where he is a property developer, Mr Comer runs a stable in Dunboyne, Co Meath.
Originally from Co Galway, he is a well-known trainer and horse breeder and has trained a number of horses owned by the millionaire wife of Tony O’Reilly, Chryss Goulandris.
