Developers apply for 300 new homes

APPLICATIONS to build almost 300 homes in four major developments in Co Cork have been lodged this week in projects estimated to be worth €75 million.

Developers apply for 300 new homes

In what local authority planners say was one of their busiest weeks, developers applied to build in Ballincollig, Bantry and Youghal, as well as in the north Cork village of Boherbue.

The biggest single proposal received by the council in recent days is for the outskirts of the ever-growing town of Ballincollig, which has already been earmarked for a huge redevelopment by O’Flynn Construction.

Planners confirmed yesterday they had received an application from Gerard Corkery from Garyhesta, Ovens for permission to build a total of 127 homes at Carrigrohane. The proposal will include a number of recreational projects.

Mr Corkery wants to construct a mixture of houses. His proposal includes 38 terraced homes, 38 apartments, 32 semi-detached houses, 14 duplex units and five detached homes on the site.

If the project is given the green light then those occupying the homes will have a great opportunity to keep fit. The developer wants to construct three sports pitches, two tennis courts and a basketball court. His plans also include a crèche.

Developer Seán Power from Kilumney, Ovens, has applied for 64 new homes in the north Cork village of Boherbue.

The application is broken down into 50 semi-detached houses, 10 terraced and four detached homes. The applicant also wants to build access roads into the proposed site at Laharan East.

Jim and Angela Davis, who have an address at Clogheen, Blarney Road, Cork, have their sights set on constructing 58 homes at Summerfield in Youghal.

Willford Developments Limited, which is based at Main Street, Bantry, has a more localised objective. Those behind the company are looking for approval from Cork County Council planning officials for 47 houses at Sheskin, Bantry.

Planning applications continue to pile in for the north Cork town of Charleville, which already has proposals for an estimated 400 homes. Developers are applying for new homes on a near-weekly basis.

The town’s attractiveness hasn’t been lost on builders. It is halfway between Cork and Limerick, is due to be bypassed and is on a reliable commuter rail link.

The county council has just granted Goldcroft Developments, a company based in Kilmallock, Co Limerick, permission to construct 52 two-storey houses at the townland of Rathgoggin North.
