Harney warns doctors not to exploit flu threat

TÁNAISTE Mary Harney has warned public health doctors not to use the threat of bird flu as a bargaining chip to further their own grievances.

Speaking in Cork yesterday, the Health Minister said she would not tolerate anyone holding the public’s health to ransom.

“We will not countenance any group of professionals using any emergency - whether it’s a flu pandemic or any other emergency - in the context of their own industrial relations issue. I’m not going to deal with threats.”
