SHELL’S breach of regulations governing work on the controversial Mayo gas pipeline means that the basis for which five men were jailed must be challenged, Labour leader Pat Rabbitte has claimed.

The five men and Shell will appear before High Court president Mr Justice Joseph Finnegan today.

Mr Rabbitte said the weekend statement by Communications, Marine and Natural Resources Minister Noel Dempsey that Shell had carried out unauthorised works at Rossport, Co Mayo, had confirmed his original suspicion.
