Tubridy switches channels with RTÉ

RTÉ’S rising star Ryan Tubridy is switching from the breakfast show to mid-morning radio in a move which will see veteran broadcaster Marian Finucane presenting a weekend programme.

Tubridy switches channels with RTÉ

Dubliner Tubridy has been one of 2FM’s shining lights with spiralling ratings for his Full Irish programme. Details of his two-hour slot were not available from RTÉ last night, but it is believed to be part of a shake-up of

Radio 1 programming.

“I’ve had a great three years on RTÉ 2FM and have had a great reaction from the audience. I’m very excited about returning to Radio 1, the timing is right and I’m really looking forward to getting started,” he said last night.

The show will start in the summer, running weekdays from 9am to 11am, but his breakfast slot is being taken over in mid-March by Ruth Scott and Rick O’Shea.

As a result of the change, Marian Finucane’s planned departure from the weekday morning schedule paves the way for her Saturday and Sunday morning programme from September. Described by RTÉ bosses as a live, topical, magazine-style show, the Saturday 11am to 1pm slot will take a look back at the week past, and on Sundays will examine the coming week’s issues.

“I’m really looking forward to a whole new challenge, delivering to a weekend audience,” Ms Finucane said.

RTÉ’s director of radio, Adrian Moynes, said the changes were the result of consideration of listeners’ views.

“We’re confident both channels are making the right moves at the right time. Marian’s style and rapport with the audience will attract listeners to a new kind of weekend radio,” he said.

Ryan Tubridy first hit the national airwaves in the summer of 1999.
