Missing man’s family still hopeful
The disappearance of Trevor Deely after a Christmas party in Dublin in December 2000 sparked a massive search. Nearly every second lamp post in Dublin had a picture of the fresh-faced young man with details of his last known movements.
Despite a lack of progress, the Deely family, from Naas, Co Kildare, remain hopeful.
“There’s nothing to disbelieve he’s not out there. We’ve no concrete proof that anything sinister has happened,” said Mark.
“We believe in our heart of hearts that we know Trevor. We know he wouldn’t do something stupid himself. Basically we don’t have any answers.
“Until somebody comes forward with hard concrete proof that he’s not out there, we totally believe he’s still out there.”
Mark, his sisters Michelle and Pamela, and their parents Michael and Anne, hope that last night’s Cracking Crime programme will help keep the momentum.
“We’ve had loads of assistance from the public all the time,” said Mark.
“People are still ringing in if they believe they’ve seen him. Really that’s what the programme is all about, to keep it out there, because we haven’t made any progress.”
The programme showed a reconstruction of the events of December 8, 2000, and spoke to the family.
Trevor, aged 22, was attending a Christmas office party on the night of the December 7/8 when he was called back to work.
Mark said he left at around 2am and walked across Baggot Street Bridge.
“We have him on an ATM camera just over Baggot Street Bridge going down Haddington Road. That’s the last sighting we have on him.”
