Gardai unveil plan to replace radio system

GARDA chiefs yesterday said they had submitted a plan to the Government to roll out a new radio system to replace a system described by garda representatives as “obsolete”.

Garda association officials said officers routinely have to use their own mobiles and, in some cases, borrow phones from other organisations, such as Dublin Bus, to contact their stations.

A garda spokeswoman said it was not decided whether the Tetra radio system, currently being piloted, would be selected.
