THE most appropriate way to develop a national cervical screening programme is at local GP level, Health Minister Mary Harney insisted yesterday.

Everybody has relatively easy assess to a GP and she said she thought it was a more satisfactory way of rolling out the screening programme rather than following the pilot model developed in the mid-west.

“I think it is best done at GP level,” she said.
