Judge threatens nightclub closure

A JUDGE has warned he will close Limerick’s trendiest new nightclub if there are further breaches of the licensing laws.

Judge threatens nightclub closure

Judge Tom O'Donnell issued the warning at Limerick District Court yesterday to the owners of the Trinity Rooms, trading as Nightimer Ltd, after hearing from gardaí there have been five breaches of the Liquor Act in the last six weeks.

The court heard the nightclub which employs 150 people was part of a €6 million development.

Formerly called Doc's, the popular nightspot underwent a multi-million euro facelift after it was taken over by new owners, following the murder of Brian Fitzgerald who worked as head of security at Doc's.

Judge O'Donnell said he had no interest in putting any of the 150 jobs at risk but described the "breathtaking arrogance" of the nightclub owners as "beyond belief".

"These people want to make money and are prepared to go to any length to do it," said Judge O'Donnell.

He felt like refusing all the exemptions applications in order to teach the company a lesson but instead adjourned the matter until December 29.

He said if there were any difficulties in the meantime a special court could convene and the exemptions would be withdrawn.

"I'm not going to give any more chances to this company," warned Judge O'Donnell.
