Irish paper not a major battle but tough to decipher

THE first Irish paper brought an end to the second day of exams for Junior Certificate candidates yesterday evening.

Irish paper not a major battle but tough to decipher

The reaction among students at North Monastery Secondary School in Cork suggested it was not a major battle, although some questions posed difficulties.

Christopher Murray said the higher level paper essay titles were tough to decipher. But he decided to write a piece about his favourite season, as this was one of the few titles he was able to understand fully.

While higher level Irish students face a second paper this morning, those taking ordinary level had just yesterday’s exam to count for their final grade which they will see when the results are released in September.

Greg Casey said Irish was one of his preferred subjects and that yesterday afternoon’s ordinary level paper was not too bad.

Stephen Desmond believed the essays were quite straightforward, although he said the paper had quite a few awkward parts. He was looking forward to finishing the Junior Certificate when the German exam is over next Friday morning.

Another ordinary level Irish student, Keith O’Shea, said there was nothing too complicated but said it is one of his favourite subjects and he understood that some people might have found it difficult.
