Students hoping to see the light

IF the Government lives up to its school building promise, more than 200 pupils at one of the south-east’s largest primary schools will be able to look out windows for the first time.

The students go to school in a factory building which has no windows The new school site for Gaelscoil Charmann in Wexford town has been purchased and planning has been approved. When the school is built, hopefully in September 2005, they’ll not only have windows, they’ll also be able to see the sea, principal Áine Uí Ghionnain said.

“We weren’t even on the list last year. But this morning, both our TD’s have been on the phone telling us that we’re getting our new, eight classroom school. It gives those who are not on the list this year hope that they may make it next year,” she said. Our nine teachers and 202 pupils are absolutely delighted. We are confident the building programme will go ahead this year. The announcement had just been made this morning when our two TDs phoned,” she said.
