Call to help Irish in the US

FINE Gael said yesterday the visit of US President George Bush should be used to further the cause of undocumented Irish in the US.

TD Jimmy Deenihan claimed the number of Irish people, who cannot risk travelling home for fear of not being able to return to the US, was estimated at 50,000.

“It is extremely worrying that the various proposals for reform appear to be at a standstill,” he said.
