Irish Examiner ends 165 years of print history

IT WAS another historic night for the Irish Examiner last night when, after 165 years, the last scheduled newspaper to be printed at Academy Street rolled off the presses.

From next week, the Irish Examiner will be printed at Mahon, in the Cork suburbs, by Webprint Concepts. Twelve other newspapers within Thomas Crosbie Holdings’ (TCH) newspaper portfolio have already transferred printing to the new presses in the past three weeks.

TCH, which owns 18 titles including the Irish Examiner, Evening Echo and The Sunday Business Post, has outsourced the printing of all its publications, except for the British-based Irish Post, to Webprint Concepts. Up to 47 employees at Academy Street took voluntary redundancy following the decision to outsource.
