NURSES are urging the cancellation of non-emergency hospital admissions to relieve growing pressure on casualty units around the country.

More than 300 patients were on trolleys awaiting treatment in accident and emergency (A&E) units during the week, according to the Irish Nurses Organisation (INO).

“This confirms our worst fears and proves that the initiatives made to date are not resolving the problem,” said INO general secretary Liam Doran.
