A TEACHERS’ union has urged the restoration of a support scheme for members which was withdrawn almost 18 months ago.

The Irish National Teachers Organisation (INTO) said members of the profession are in danger of quitting because they remain one of the few groups in public service not to have an employee assistance scheme, despite the strains placed on teachers in their working day.

INTO general secretary John Carr said little progress has been made on a review of the pilot Educare system, which was concluded in August 2003.
