Government to testify in Europe over CIA flights

THE Irish Government will be called to give evidence to the European Parliament on possible CIA rendition flights through Shannon airport.

A special committee of MEPs is to investigate allegations of US-run jails in Europe where kidnapped terror suspects are held and possibly tortured and of CIA flights carrying them landing in countries, including Ireland.

Evidence for these activities increased yesterday when the Swiss government announced it will investigate how a magazine got and published secret service documents that appear to confirm the existence of CIA prisons in Europe.
