COMMUTERS face transport chaos from tomorrow as bus and rail workers embark on a series of strikes in protest over Government plans to break up CIÉ.

Bus and rail services nationwide are due to grind to a halt between 11am and 3pm on Wednesday as up to 9,000 drivers take part in protest marches.

Business groups described the stoppage as a pointless measure which would cost city traders up to 10 million as shoppers and business people avoid travelling on the day.
