Man due in court on charges connected to fatal stabbing
One man died and another is in a serious condition in hospital after a row involving three people broke out at a house in Lucan. All three men are Lithuanian nationals.
A 23-year-old is due to appear before Kilmainham District Court today charged with assault causing serious harm.
He was held overnight in Ronanstown Garda Station, where an incident room has been set up following the double stabbing.
The dead man, aged 24, was stabbed a number of times following a row at the house in Earlsfort Drive at about 10pm on Sunday.
After the alarm was raised, he was taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Gardaí did not release his name last night as they have still to contact his family in Lithuania.
They have enlisted the help of the Baltic country’s embassy in London.
The second man, 32, was stabbed in a separate but related incident in nearby Earlsfort View just minutes later.
He was brought to Tallaght Hospital where his condition is said to be serious but stable.
Investigators are still trying to piece together what exactly happened at the house in Earlsfort Drive.
House-to-house enquiries were carried out yesterday while the suspect in the case was interviewed at Ronanstown Garda Station for nearly 12 hours under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Gardaí have yet to speak to the injured man.
Those close to the investigation said it could be a number of days before detectives are able to interview him.
It is believed two men arrived at the house of the suspect and shortly after a row broke out. The 32-year-old is thought to have fled but was pursued and then stabbed.
Both scenes have been preserved for technical investigations while deputy State pathologist Marie Cassidy is due to perform a post-mortem later today.
