BANK OF IRELAND last night sought to allay customer fears ahead of a 24-hour strike by 250 members of the Irish Bank Officials’ Association which began at midnight.

The one-day stoppage could hit customers seeking to use a range of services, such as withdrawing money from ATM machines or internet banking, over the bank holiday weekend.

However, 100 non-union members who work in the bank’s information technology support activities division are expected to pass pickets at ITSIS, the IT facility in Cabinteely, south county Dublin.
